Mr. Mommy - Day 9

We had a busy weekend, so I let everyone sleep in this morning.

If "sleeping in" still counts as getting up at 8 AM.

Lennon wasn't sleeping, however.

Busted!

I took Sherman for his morning walk and we met up with Zoe and her brother who we used to see all of the time when the girls went to public school. They all still remembered each other.

Back at home, cleaning was planned and organized.

And some assembling too.

Meanwhile in Germany, Iria was soaking in a final day or European charm before returning to suburban Texas.

All of the driving around this week must have taken its toll on my car. The engine will not start when I turn the key, so it is either a bad battery or something much worse. I will have to wait to find out until after Iria is home.

So I drove them all around in the Mom-mobile today. Here is Katharine and Keira waiting to meet up with Jane and her Mom for the drive to dance.

They are looking pretty happy!

And Lennon riding with me to dance after practice with Nipper and Che.

He is not looking too happy :)

At night, I usually check out Katharine's latest sketches from her sketchbook,

On the left page she was copying some DaVinci drawings for practice, and on the right page she is sketching a new Mermaid picture.

Pretty cool!

Off to bed.

Iria is home tomorrow!

Woot!

Mr. Mommy - Day 8

We woke up really early to make the 8:15 AM choir roll call at church.

Doughnuts took the edge off the early wake up call, at least for as long as the sugar rush lasted.

Katharine and Lukas sang in the choir. They both did a great job.

And the crowd went wild!

On our way out we ran into Charlotte, who none of us have seen for a long time. If you dig back into some of the earlier pages of the blog, you might see a few appearances. The girls promised to get back in touch. I hope they do!

At home, the boys finished off the Lego set and whisked it up to their room. This is probably the last time that it will be fully intact.

Around 1 PM I took Keira and Katharine to Figure Drawing at Gearbox. We bring a clothed model in on the occasional Sunday, to make it more family and kid friendly.

Keira is getting a lot better at gesture, and loosely sketching the pose in.

Katharine is getting a lot better all around.

These don't look like the sketches of a 15 year old anymore..

Lukas's team had their Championship Game later on in the afternoon, causing us to miss our first scheduled activity (afternoon choir) of the week.

The game did not go well, and they lost another Championship.

Leading up to the game, Lukas would often joke about his growing collection of 2nd Place trophies. There would be no laughs today, but when he is older it will make for a good story.

Until then, Go Blitz!!

I knew another family would get a nice shot of the jump, so I went with the artsy lens flare shot.

Here is the money shot:

I took him out afterwards to his favorite restaurant, Genghis Grill.

I like the food, but I always feel like I have just wasted a bunch of money whenever I go there. It is only allowed for special occasions.

The kids are in bed, and we will all be sleeping in tomorrow.

I am taking vacation days, right?

Mr. Mommy - Day 7

Lukas had an early playoff game this morning, so we all woke up at 6:30 and were out of the house by 7:15.

He scored the first goal, and his team went on to a win a tight game 3-2.

The girls stayed in the car during the game.

Katharine played her latest mobile game, Keira completed orders for her rag dolls, and Kassidy was just being Kassidy. We dropped them off at dance after the game was over.

Back at home, lunch and Legos before we were off to Lukas's 2nd game.

Meanwhile in Germany, Iria is eating much better food than we are.

I rushed over to dance before halftime to pick up the girls. Keira was still wrapping up class, and Katharine was chilling with her friend Barbara. I just purchased $200.00 of recital tickets today, so no pressure :)

We got back to the game in time to see the last five minutes. Blitz won 4-0 and are going to the Championship Game tomorrow.

The crowd went wild!

But Lukas was pretty chill about it.

Back home for some bricks and crafts.

Keira rocked this portrait of her cheetah, "Heart".

Then at 8:30 PM I drove my teenage daughter to the movies (not a date- haven't gone down that road yet) and snuck in a bowl of Pho on the way home.

While I wait for her, I'm watching Bill Maher and working on some Justice League pages.

It is midnight, and everybody is safely home.
Seeya in 6 hours!

Mr. Mommy- Day 6

Today we took a field trip to the Perot Museum in Dallas.

We got there right as the museum opened, and had the space exhibit all to ourselves for the first 30 minutes.

It was everybody's favorite part of the visit.

By the time we exited those rooms, the throngs of school children had arrived.

We made a quick trip through the dinosaur and weather exhibits before leaving around 11:30.

We ate out for lunch today.

This place is only ten minutes away along the lakefront, but I have never been there.

The food was really good and cheap, and the atmosphere was great. I'm sure that we will be back.

Meanwhile in Germany, Iria took some pastoral pictures as she walked through her hometown.

Jane carpooled with us today.

The girls were the first ones ready and in their classroom, which didn't surprise me one bit.

Afterwards, they convinced me to stick around for another two hours and wait for Katharine to be done, rather than driving home and back right away. I thought that they would be bored, but those girls can amuse themselves just about anywhere.

These folders contain all of their letters to each other and the notes to some secret mouse language that only they can understand..

We took a small trip to the downstairs Euro deli, and Keira introduced Jane to kinder chocolate.

Meanwhile, Keira received her first order for one of her rag dolls.

From Jane, of course.

Back at home, we are all going to bed early. The coloring book is done, so I am taking a break from art. And we all have to leave at 7 AM tomorrow to go to Lukas's playoff game. The day will not end until almost midnight, when I pick up Katharine form a movie night out with a friend.

It is Kassidy's turn for Iria's side of the bed tonight. I'm not sure if it is because she misses her Mom so much, or just likes to sleep with the pets. Probably a little bit of both.
