Love is Up !!!

Katharine broke out the yarn and hole puncher and has begun turning our house into a Yoko Ono exhibit. I now need to be mindful of paper cuts on my cheeks, but you certainly can't beat the message...

Burning off the Thanksgiving calories

Thanksgiving

Yesterday we got to enjoy another wonderful Thanksgiving with our frouzins Liam, Aiden and Nolan and lots and lots of other friends, old and new. The food was as always extraordinarily good. Lots of appetizers, turkey, side dishes and wonderful desserts. The kids got to paint ceramic mugs and tear up the blue room. Luckily it was nice enough for them to go outside, too. After the kids' dinner, Brian turned on Walle which meant the grown ups got to enjoy a sit down feast, too. Meghan and Brian, you are the best hosts and Thanksgiving would not be what it is if we couldn't spend it with you and the boys! Thank you! We love you!

Flashback: November 27, 2003

It looks like we celebrated Katharine's first Thanksgiving in a restaurant, but I do not remember where. I'm sure that Mom and Dad will fill us all in :)

School Work

We have worked hard in science and history lately. We got to recreate an Mbeti Pygmie loincloth, build a 3 foot tree, and recreate pond life. Lukas was very much into the hands-on projects and enjoyed going to school with Katharine. He made a loincloth as well, but preferred not to wear it. He needed a little help from me with his pond.

Flashback: November 21, 2006

I'm starting a new feature on the blog called "Flashback".

The blog has been around for a year- but as you can guess, we starting taking pictures long before that. So every now and then I will dig through the virtual pile and pull out some photos that were taken around the time of the latest post, but from the past.

The first flashback is from November of 2006. Katharine has long hair… and Lukas has short hair. This takes a little getting used to.

Crayon fairies

Katharine has been inspired by the new Tinkerbell movie and is churning out a lot of fairie drawings again. The subject matter is nothing new, but you can see her going back and forth between her simpler style and the more realistic style that she has been experimenting with in school.

And here is a piece by Lukas to round things up. I love the multitude of energetic marks that fill up his pictures- except when they are all over my wall.

And Keira makes four

I just realized that each of the kids have had their own post over the last few days, so now it is Keira's turn :)

thot

" the water rushes and the sun glares and sometime we just stand and think."

I was scanning Jeramy's photos http://www.icecoldmilk.com/phlog/ and found this one of Katharine hidden amongst all of the industrial decay. If you have never seen his work, check out his blog- his photography is amazing.

Bath head

Lennon always sports an impressive mohawk after his bath.

Texas 'Pineywoods' Country

Jeramy and I were planning on getting together today with the girls, but did not know what to do. Katharine, who learned about pine trees in school last week, suggested that we visit a “pine forest” (in addition to her educational pursuits, she also wanted to nab some pine comes for future arts and craft projects).

Tyler State Park is 100 miles east of Dallas, and it was worth every minute of the two hour drive. It was 70 degrees, sunny, and the leaves were just beginning to turn color and fall. All of the kids walked the entire 2 ½ mile loop around the lake, and many pine cones were acquired.

A bonus is that the Caldwell Zoo is only 15 minutes away from the park. It is small, walkable, cheap, and has some of the best sight lines of any zoo that I have ever been in.

All in all, a very good day :)

Katharine's gigantic stick, which narrowly missed whacking just about everyone.

The girls went back and forth between fishing and making goopy pond soup. On a positive note, the gigantic stick became too slimy to carry.

This was the most convincing "crocodile" driftwood that we found.
