Memorial Day'orama

We spent our Memorial Day afternoon at the Martels, along with Jeramy and the Murphy's. The kids had their usual blend of fun: eating, sprinklers and swinging topped off with an after dinner show.

I didn't plan on taking a lot of pictures, but here are a few:

And oh yeah- we had a tarantula hanging out on Brian's outdoor kitchen counter for the whole time.

Happy Memorial Day!

Wicked

Iria, Katharine, and two of our friends from church saw "Wicked" this past Thursday; but it took two significant snafu's on my part for it to all go down as it did.

But watching her paint dolls green, sing and dance to the soundtrack, and draw up posters and brochures made it all worthwhile :)

The Scarborough Fair

Forget about Memorial Day- our annual pilgrimage to the Scarborough Fair always feels like the kick-off to the summer season. You can always count on it being a blazing hot day of outdoor fun.

Lukas was originally going to wear his Peter Pan costume, but he ditched his tunic for a Star Wars shirt at the last minute. That story took place "A long time ago...", so who knows if it wasn't going on at the same time as the Renaissance. Katharine, of course, came dressed for the occasion.

Phoebe joined us for the first time this year, and we had a lot of fun and spectacle (more on that later).

Lukas got a black dragon painted on his face. The first picture is from the start of the day, the second as we were walking out. It kept up pretty well (at least better than Lukas's hair did).

The rides were mentioned by everyone as one of their "favorite parts of the day".

The games were fun as well. The kids brought in a ringer for the last few shots in hope of landing some kind of toy.

They were all given these small toy dinosaurs which they proceeded to launch from the crossbows.

We encountered a new fairy this year which gave out more stones.

The kids then proceeded to follow her around and she couldn't shake them off until we intervened.

They were in high gear, so no fairy was going to escape unless they could actually fly.

Liam, Phoebe and Katharine stole the show of the dueling knights- it made for some fun improvisation.

The boys were acting silly as well.

We got a great seat for the parade, which worked out well because the kids were starting to get tired.

Katharine got to see fairies, and Lukas got to see pirates. Parade = success!

Afterwards, everybody got to work on some Italian ices to cool off.

I don't know what was in that ice, but Phoebe went straight up the May pole.

I wrapped up the day by buying some foam swords for the kids (which have already been confiscated).

All in all- a very fun time at the Scarborough Fair!

Change me!

Keira announces that she needs a diaper change in one of two ways:

1. Playfully tugs on the tabs of her diaper
2. Rips open a new bag of diapers and sits in the middle of the pile until someone finally notices

Costume Preview

Katharine and Lukas's recital is coming up in a few weeks, and the costumes have begun to arrive. Here is Katharine showing off one of her 3 (!) ensembles.

Dual wielding

This morning we saw Keira pull Katharine's abandoned cereal bowl over to her (as she is often inclined to do), and then proceed to eat with two spoons while keeping most of the food in her mouth and off of the floor (which she is rarely inclined to do).

And then we noticed that she was looking pretty cute while doing it- so out came the camera.
