Stories of Wonder

The boys and I are in our second week of Stories of Wonder. Last week we explored Leo Tolstoy's short story "Where Love Is, God Is", this week we are taking in Robin Hood. So far they have listened to parts of Robin, Earl of Huntington's story, written about it, illustrated, re-enacted and did a Lego built of it.

The main part today was how Kittle Hohn and Robin Hood met.

Hedgehog Post

I recently ordered a Waldorf craft box from Hedgehog Post. It is put together by a momma who pre packs a certain amount of craft supply boxes that go with each month of the year. It also comes with a little magazine, instructions, a short story, poems to go along with the activity as well as book recommendations.

The Kassidy, Keira and I put together a small terrarium, started soaking wheatgrass berries that will most likely sprout by Easter Sunday and we made needle felted wool eggs.
Lukas came home with Erik and Lennon in time from the Chaos-Team soccer game to make a felted egg, too.

We had a total of 3 soccer games today and Katharine had 5 hours of dance rehearsal.
Below us a picture of Lennon taking a goal shot.
And if three games in one day are not enough, the bits are out watching an FC Dallas game. Tomorrow all the kids will sing in service for Palm Sunday, have choir rehearsal and there are two more soccer games to go to.

Spring Flowers

The kids and I made two trips to the local nursery this week. The first one to buy some herbs: We walked away with seeds, herbs, flowers and soil.
The second visit was because Katharine had to find man made and natural/ organic fertilizers, as well as the ingredients and how to use them. We bought two more plants that day as well as new pruning shears, and just had plain old fun enjoying the beauty of the plants.

We didn't buy any of these, the peony, Bougainville, peach tree and gnarled tree where just very pretty to look at.

Today we finally got around to potting and planting. Earlier this week the kids hung plastic rags in the trees and shrubs. All 5 had a great time working away in the yard with me.

The flower bed is organized chaos. I let the kids pick out the plants and we ended up with a mix of begonias, alyssum, cineraria, snap dragons and marigolds! I love how excited they get over flowers and planting!

Nut Job

Keira, Kassidy and Lukas are all pistachio fans, but I think that Keira is the most creative with them.

Daddy Date

Keira and I had a night out together this past Saturday.

We tried to go bowling but there was a two hour wait, so we went and ate at Wholefoods and then did some window shopping in Target and ToysRUs.

Funny enough, her favorite part of the night was filling a gas tank up for the first time.

She was a cheap date- only 2.15 a gallon :)

Saturday Afternoon

While Katharine was at dress rehearsal for the PACE showcase, Kassidy and I had lunch at the Dallas Museum of Art and enjoyed two wonderful exhibits. One by contemporary artist Michael Booremans and the other was a small exhibit or impressionist paintings the museum owns but does not have on permanent display. I got to look at the art through Kassidy's eyes and comments which was very refreshing!

Both of these paintings are by Michael Borremans

The painting above is a Pisarro, below is a not so well known Degas.

Royal Academy Of Dance Exam

Katharine was initiated into the world of annual dance exams today. At 9 o'clock this morning she and her fellow dance student and friend Danielle went into the studio for the RAD ( Royal Academy of Dance) exam. Everything went well. We just won't get the results for two months.

Warm up:

First Day of Spring

Keira drew some flowers and a birds nest for her teacher Ms. Thomas to welcome in the first day of Spring, as the sad penguin looks on..

Leprechaun Folks

The boys, Katharine and I made wooden leprechauns in honor of St. Patrick's a Day yesterday. We painted them yesterday, and sewed the hats and felted the gold and beards today.

From left to right: Lennon's grandfather, my shamrock hat girl, Katharine's leprechaun and Lukas' little guy.

Here you can see the hats overflowing with silver and gold.

I ended up putting these wee little folks on our seasonal table.

Saint Patrick

We made Saint Patrick our main lesson today, and read one story about a friendly leprechaun.

We tried to find as many green foods to eat for lunch as possible. The cabbage we used to decorate the dishes with.

I did a chalk drawing of St. Patrick for the boys and they did their best to get their own version in their mail lesson book. We read a shortened version of his life, looked at the maps of Ireland, Britain and France to follow his travels, and even memorized one of the saint's prayers " Saint Patrick's Breastplate", which was also our blessing at lunch.
Wooden leprechauns are still being worked on.

Puffy Feet

Keira has been living in her dance warmup booties this past week.

Happy St.Patrick's Day

On my drive to taking Kassidy to pre-school this morning, we had another beautiful sun rise:

Spring Soccer Camp

Lennon went to soccer camp in the mornings this week. He had a great time. I love seeing the love for the game in him! At the last scrimmage today, he scored 6 out of 7 goals for his team!

Princess Partying

Keira and her friend Emma at Emma's birthday party, where they are watching the new Cinderella movie that opens with a new Frozen short about Princess Anna's birthday party.

Princess birthday overload!

Dancer Reunion

Last night we had the opportunity to meet up with Claire, Emma and their mentor Kari. Kari went to Sheena's and always looked out for and mentored the girls in the most gracious way. She is now in her second semester at VCU studying dance. Each time time she visits home we get to catch up over a cup of coffee. A true Spring Break highlight, especially for Katharine!
