Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, as every year, is spend with the frousins and a lot of food. This year, the kids also got to light the menorah, spin the dreidel and open Hanukkah presents as Thanksgiving was the second night of Hanukkah. The next time we will come together for that will be in 2070;)
























Kassidy and Kate held hands all afternoon and evening. Here they are surveying and tasting the dessert. They later had devoured almost half a chocolate pie just by sticking their little fingers in it, and loved every second of it. It was very hard to not let them have their pie, they were so darn cute!

Long Weekend

Gearbox gives everyone three days off over the Thanksgiving break, so I started it off yesterday building some cool stuff with the kids.

St. Martin's Day

Growing up in Germany, we made lanterns for St. Martin's Day each year, put a tea light in them, and went for a walk at night singing songs.
Our homeschool curriculum celebrates festivals throughout the year.
St. Martin's Day is on November 11 each year. It is the story of the Roman soldier Martin, who cut his cloak in two to help a beggar, and then out down his armor and became a servant of Christ.
The kids love the story. We made our lanterns this year and took the kids on a walk.






Katharine was in dance class, and Kassidy had to be carried through the neighborhood.

Nutcracker Tea

The four younger kids and I went to the Frisco Ballet's annual Nutcracker Tea. Lukas and Lennon had been bugging me about having afternoon tea a lot lately, so this was perfect.
I helped decorate the room, and worked as server the first seating if the tea, and ate with the little ones at the second seating. They had sandwiches, brownies with meringues, tea, lemonade, and a lot of fun.
Keira had her own bread and brownies that we brought and took her tea with soy milk.


















They listened to the story of the Nutcracker, and made a snowflake and Nutcracker ornament each. After the tea, we were off to Kate Martel's Royal Tea Party to celebrate her 3rd birthday.

Family, Floats, and Friends

Here are a few pictures from the the Frisco Community Day Parade that Iria and the girls attended today.

Iria worked on some of the floats, and Katharine has been working really hard on her dance. It was a great opportunity to celebrate both of their efforts.

Being Thankful

You may have noticed, it's the month of November, a time we take to give thanks in many ways. On Facebook, many of my friends, including me, make a daily post on what we are thankful for.
Here at home, the kids and I made our "Box of Thanks". Every morning, at the beginning of the school day, after we light our candles and read our November poem, we sit down and write or draw a little note of what we are thankful for. We fold it, and stick in the box. On Thanksgiving Day, we will open the box, and take turns reading the notes out loud to each other. It is a wonderful way to start the day.

Now it is November,
Trees are nearly bare;
Red and gold and brown leaves
Scatter everywhere.

Dark now, are the mornings,
Cold and frosty too;
Damp and misty evenings
Chill us through and through.

Busy are all creatures,
Winter food to hide;
Nests to make all cosy,
Warm and safe inside.

Friday Night Lights

I took the boys to their first high school football game tonight, where we watched the Allen Eagles host the McKinney Lions.

Allen is ranked #3 in the nation, and the score was already 49-0 at the half.

Despite the lopsided score, there is nothing like Texas high school football (although their huge new stadium does dilute some of the frantic atmosphere).

Halloween Part 2

After the great trick or treating, one of the biggest treats was that Daddy showed up out of the blue to go trick or treating with us, the candy got sorted. One pile for the kids, one pile for the USO and one pile for the Sugar Sprite:

I guess the Sugar Sprite was happy to receive candy and returned their kindness with a Lego mini figure for each. She just needs to work on her spelling😉
