Pumpkins

The kids carved pumpkins with Iria today. Lukas scribbled his pumpkin design in marker, and Katharine dictated hers.

Halloween Preview

The kids were breaking in their costumes over the past few days in preparation for the big night coming up.

Lennon on the lap

In case anyone forgot,,, we do have a new baby.

Magna Doodles 2

Behold the magic flower hating monster. She hates earings, bananas, people, and especially flowers.

And oh yeah, she eats slugs.

Lion Mask

Katharine made this chicken pock lion mask (her description, not mine) in Sunday school. I think it is based on the biblical story where Daniel goes into the lions den and gives them all oatmeal baths.

Magna Doodles

Iria and I write and read words and sentences on a magna doodle every night with Katharine before her bedtime story.

Tonight she wanted to write the sentence herself, using some of the new words ("see" and "the") that she had been learning. With Iria helping her sound out some of the words, she wrote "I see the bear dig". She then illustrated the text with a polka dot bear digging holes under the stars.

Taste Testing

Iria shot these pictures of Katharine and Lukas trying out the hot chocolate and jello that they had just made. It's hard to tell, but I think they liked it.

Saving pictures off of the blog

Some people have asked me how to save photographs off of the blog. It is really simple.





First, left-click on the photograph to bring up the high-res version.





Second, right-click on the photograph to bring up the save options. Select "Save Picture As,,,"





Third, choose a folder to put it in. It will probably default to 'My Pictures' by default. At that point, you can burn the file to a CD or add it to a memory card if you want to get it printed.

Coming out of church today there was a strong breeze, a cool looking tree, and a camera in hand. Katharine was off-camera crying about not getting her doughnut,,,

Katharine's Parent/Teacher Report

I attended the parent/teacher conference today at Katharine's school.

They said she was "A sweet and polite girl. She follows directions carefully and is sensitive to, and respectful of, others". She likes to play with Riley, Erica and Sarah (but only one of the Sofia's); and is more likely to strike up a conversation with someone who sits next to her rather than seek one out.

They also said that she wasn't the Tom-boy type- no surprises here.

Bath time

Sorry for the posting gap. Work is going to be really busy through the end of the month, so our new bedroom and these blog updates are a little stalled out.

Lennon hasn't had his first bath yet, but it is always a good photo op for Lukas and Katharine.

Ghost stories

So there once was a ghost princess, who was scared of jack-o-lanterns. The ghost wasn't scared because,, well,,, he was a ghost.

Yes, Katharine is really into Halloween this year.

The good news

Julie sent us a picture today of Katharine on the phone when she heard the news that Lennon was born.

Dinosaur Museum

The last few seconds that Katharine's Dinosaur Museum stood before Lukas leveled it.

New room: Day 4

The new wall is almost done. Thanks for the help. Dad!

All I have left is spackling, dry wall patching, carpet edging, trim cutting, door shaving, wall priming, wall painting, and the insane dry wall scaffolding maneuver. I guess "almost done" doesn't quite yet apply.

Katharine's Halloween costume

Here is the catalog picture of the Halloween costume that Katharine picked out. Of course, it was the most expensive and exclusive costume in the catalog. Mom,, Dad,, is the check in the mail? :)

Wall art

Keen eyes may have noticed all of the scribbles over the wallboard in the previous post. For Katharine and Lukas, it was just a big canvas. All Katharine needed was some scaffolding and a pencil cup to make it complete. High above the Lukas scribble zone she drew some of her trademark princesses; note the hair that goes on forever and pointed jeweled crowns.
