The Chocolate Cake Experiment



Here is a video of the little ordeal that I put my poor daughter through this afternoon (although she did get a big piece of cake out of it, so it wasn’t too bad for her).

Loosely based off of the “marshmallow experiment” (a Stanford University study from the 1960’s which tested deferred gratification in young children), Katharine was told that she could have an even bigger piece of cake if she was able to wait for ten minutes without eating the smaller piece in front of her. I left the room and left the camera rolling.

I capped it at ten minutes, but it looks like Katharine could have held out even longer after she made it past the tough eight minute mark ("DADDY!!!!"). Now we have to wait ten years and see how she does on those SAT scores...
