On one of the first days we were in Germany, we took the fabulously smallish rental car to Ludwigsburg, former residence of many of the Wuerttemberg dukes and kings. We went for a walk through Favorite Park, fed deer and other game. The small castle in the park was formerly a hunting castle and sits literally opposite of the much larger residential palace. The kids not being too tired we hiked up the hilly streets to the Christmas Market to ooh and aah at all the pretty handmade things, Christmas decorations and other things alike, as well as to buy some gingerbread hearts. Katharine opted for a big bag full of gingerbread squares instead - in German known as Magenbrot - that she happily shared with me.
